Accessing Materials
There are currently two* ways to check out materials from The Bookery.
- The “Hold System” - browse the online catalogue and email thebookerymn@gmail.com with a list of materials you would like. Once the materials have been pulled from the shelves, you will receive an email to set up a pick-up time.
- Families who prefer to explore the collection in person can email thebookerymn@gmail.com to set up an appointment.
*We do hope to begin offering “Lending Open Hours” in the near future!
Lending Policies
Bookery Families may borrow materials for one month at a time.
Borrowing will be limited to 15 books per Bookery Family at any given time.
Materials must be returned to The Bookery on or before the due date. Materials must be returned in the same condition they were borrowed. (See “Lost or Damaged Materials” in our Care of Books policy for further details.).
Please be mindful that many Bookery Families use the same books for their home learning. Let’s work together to return books on time for use by other families.
Materials may be renewed (up to three times, one additional month per renewal) if no other Bookery Family has requested the item.
There are no late fees. However, additional books may not be checked out until overdue books have been returned.
Care for Books
Lost/Damaged Items
Every Bookery Family who checks out material is fully responsible for the care of the Bookery materials in their possession.
We recommend that books be transported and stored in a plastic storage bin.
Materials may not be loaned to anyone outside of the Bookery family that borrowed them; they must remain in your possession at all times.
Book spines are fragile! Please only use a flat, paper bookmark. Never lay an open book face down, dog-ear page corners, or use paperclips to keep your place.
Please bring damage you notice prior to check out to the Library Administrator's attention to avoid being charged for damage.
Please report damage that is incurred while in your possession so that it can be corrected quickly. Do not attempt to repair damage yourself. The Borrower will be charged $3 to cover the cost of repairs.
If materials are lost while in your possession, please let The Bookery know without trying to replace it yourself. Replacement with a new book can mess up the cataloguing system.
The cost of replacing a lost book or materials damaged beyond repair is the responsibility of the borrower. All patrons are responsible for the books they have checked out and will be charged the highest “very good” condition used price on Thrift books or equivalent for any lost or damaged books (or the new Amazon/Living Book Press/Yesterday’s Classics price if it is not available used). It is up to The Bookery’s discretion as to what the exact charge will be or what qualifies as a damaged book that is beyond repair. All lost/damaged fees must be paid before the borrower will be permitted to check out any more books.
The Bookery’s mission is to support home education through making available a variety of high quality reading materials and resources related to commonly used Charlotte Mason curriculums as well as to preserve out of print and hard to find books and well written materials disappearing from public library shelves.
